Garden of the Gods is one of the most iconic landmarks in Colorado Springs, offering a mix of dramatic cliffs, red rocks, open fields, and breathtaking views of Pikes Peak. Whether you’re looking for an adventurous session with hiking and movement or a more intimate, romantic feel, this location has so much variety.
High Point Overlook – Perfect for sunset views and sweeping landscapes.
Kissing Camels Rock – A unique rock formation that adds a romantic touch.
Perkins Central Garden Trail – Easy access to massive red rock formations.
This variety makes Garden of the Gods an ideal location for Colorado adventure couples photography, especially for those wanting a mix of nature and cinematic backdrops.
When planning your Garden of the Gods photography session, timing is everything!
Golden Hour (Sunrise or Sunset) – The soft, warm light creates a romantic glow, making it the best time for a sunset photoshoot at Garden of the Gods.
Spring & Fall – Mild temperatures and vibrant colors make these seasons ideal. Be mindful that snow often can make an appearance even into April and May.
Summer – Stunning weather and views, but the crowds are busier.
Winter – Snow-dusted red rocks create a stunning contrast for adventurous couples.
If you want a more private experience, weekday mornings tend to be the least crowded. Sunset is absolutely magical but can draw a crowd—so we recommend arriving early to snag the best spots!
Choosing the right outfit for your Colorado Springs couples photography session can make all the difference!
Neutral & Earthy Tones – Colors like rust, beige, deep greens, and blues complement the red rock formations beautifully.
Flowy Dresses & Layers – Adds movement and dimension to your photos.
Comfortable Shoes – There’s a bit of walking involved, so bring stylish but practical footwear.
Not sure what to wear? I always provide outfit guidance for my couples to help them feel their best!
To make the most of your Garden of the Gods couples session, here are some essential tips:
Arrive Early – The park can get busy, and parking is limited, so arriving early ensures a smoother and quieter experience.
Consider the Weather – Colorado weather can change fast! Bring layers, especially if shooting at sunrise or sunset.
Be Prepared to Walk – Some of the best locations require a short hike, but they are all relatively easy and totally worth it!
Check for Permits – While casual photoshoots don’t require a permit, professional sessions with tripods or lighting gear may need approval. If you’re looking for info about weddings or eloping at Garden of the Gods – you can find information here.
Following these tips will help you have a smooth and stress-free Colorado adventure photography session!
Brooklynn and Aiden wanted an adventurous and intimate couples session that felt natural and fun. We hiked up to these incredible rock formations for some beautiful views hidden in the red rocks. We captured candid, romantic moments filled with laughter, movement, and connection.
One of my favorite moments from our time together was scouting a new location together. We drove up the rockiest road, and found the most incredible views! We had no idea where the road led, and when we got to the top it was so incredibly beautiful. There was no one around so we spread out, ran around, and they danced – it was like a scene from a movie! This is what I love most about documentary-style photography—it’s about capturing the real emotions, the in-between moments, and the pure love between two people.
Whether you’re celebrating an anniversary, planning a surprise proposal, or just want beautiful photos together, Garden of the Gods is truly the perfect spot.
If you’re looking for a photographer who will help you feel comfortable, embrace adventure, and capture your love in an authentic way, I’d love to work with you!
